What is sustainability?

Sustainability is not a gimmick or a buzz word. The most successful businesses plan for sustainable long term success by making sure they are operating at a level which ensures the effective management of economic, social and environmental issues. Adopting such practices means that risks are reduced, legal compliance is maintained, resources are carefully managed, and stakeholder expectations are met resulting in tangible benefits.  Sustainable development is an essential requirement and needs to be taken seriously if your organisation is to position itself to meet the changing demands of an increasingly environmentally-sensitive business world.

Why it is relevant to you

In today’s economic climate, organisations need to manage many facets: financial, employment, business development, marketing, client retention, being competitive etc. Often legal compliance is not understood and environmental impacts are overlooked with the implementation of any controls perceived as unnecessary or too costly. This couldn’t be further from the truth. By implementing sustainable practices you can drive down costs, reduce environmental impacts and enhance your organisations image meaning you can stand up to scrutiny, knowing you have met your chosen objectives. It is a fact that many clients across all industry sectors now require independent verification of sustainability performance, such as EcoCheck or certification to ISO14001 and/or BS8901.

Sustainable development is the key to ensuring your businesses long term success. If a business is not sustainable it has a limited life
